Dog's Sports

In our breeding program we are using the idea poodle is not only companion but also the active family member. For breed we used (and we will use in future) active poodles in show fields and sporters as well.
We think everyone should start at himself/herself we started to sport with our dogs. Nowadays we are doing actively two dog sports, agility and racing. Some of our poodles tried lure coursing also and let's hope we would be able to do it more in future. Everything is in stars. So we would like to introdce us our stars and little stars.

Racing

You can imagine racing like horse or hounds racings. The only difference is in terrain, here the dog is running in the straight line, with obstacles or without and more times in the competiton. This sport is comming from USA where the dog racing is for terriers only since 60th.

The straight track has 70 - 100 m and the dog's target is a) be first in the finnish b) run in the fastest time.

Dogs run the track with or without obstacles and run after the tassel. There might be 3 to 5 low obstacles on the track. The finnish is made by a wall (it is made from soft foam) with the hole inside matching the height of the dog. Soft foam helps to reduce any injury.

1. Dogs are starting in the group from the starting boxes and run fast into the hole in the wall. The dog who's the first wins.
2. Dogs are starting alone from the starting boxes and run into the finnish where they are hunting a tassel. Here there is time the most important. The dog with the fastest times from all races wins.

At the trainigs it is possible to run the track with or without the obstacles and from the beginning dogs are running solo. In the moment the dog is fully fixed to the tassel he/she is fully grown up and is able to start from starting box he/she can run in a group.

Agility

It is sport for dogs and ther owners and it was derived from horses show jumping. It was discovered in Great Britain. Show jumping is made from various obstacles (jumping obstacles, tunels, beam, swing, slalom,...). Dog is getting over the show jumping in given orderd without leash and collar and is listening the word orders and human movement.

Lure Coursing

Coursing, the lure-coursing to be specific is a sport where a dog is hunting a "tassel" - an imitation of rabbit. It is in the nature and is moving on spinning reel placed in terrene on the pulley system.

The racing truck should be intended, the tassel moving unexpected and the nature obstacles are very attractive as well they serve as gullies. The dogs should prove their hunting abilities, the physical and mental as well. Two dogs are starting together and they should co-operate in their hunting in the way they would be able to follow the "rabbit" all the time and don't loose him. Usually one dog is following the "rabbit" in the straight away and the second is moving along and trying to attack the tassel from the side. It is also usual the dogs are moving along sides each other and have the tassel in between them. The rules evaluates how they are using terrene and are able to utilize it, how they co-operate with sparing-partner and how fast they react to the changes in the movement of the "rabbit".

The track has 500 – 700 meters and that is enough to prove dog’s good state, fast enough, tenacious and competent.

The lure-coursing was only for the hound breeds (X FCI group) at the beginning, nowadays in Czech it's a sport for all the dogs.

Our girls are at the beginning and it looks like Besy is very interested. Sisi is not such oriented she prefers walking. We will see in the future...

Nosework

You can imagine nosework and dogs work with the nose. Is is one of the most nature dog sports for your dog - the dog is using its most natural feeling - the ability of sniffing.

We have 4 different areas of nosework. In every area there is one elementary competition (not obligatory) and then competitions of 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. To be able to subscript into 2nd level competition you have to pass the competition of 1st grade in one area. The same applied to the 3rd grade; you can go there only in case you pass 2nd level competition.

The areas of nosework are:

• NW-N (nature): searching in nature terains
• NW-U (urban): searching in places where you can find things left by human (you can imagine equipped rooms, gardens with all different rubbish, storage rooms, warehouse, parkplace, castle ruins squares, streets,...
• NW-W (water): searcching in water
• NW-D (discrimination): discrimination in raws of objects and mans

The competitions comming from the real situatios the proffesionals using in their work. The competitions have different focus and every pair (dog and his trainer) can find what is the most natural and fine for them, for what they have the pre-dispositions. Every trainer then can try how good he/she is in the co-operation with his/her own dog. You will learn the feelings of profesionals who can read his/her own dog, know the theory of smell distribution and can help his/her own dog by applying these. In this sport you have the only result as in real life found or not found.

In Czech Republic, dogs are serching the smell of cinamon and orange peel.
